The auction of Chris Morris ahead of IPL 2021 ended up creating history! The South African all-rounder became the most expensive player in the history of IPL. Both Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings were engaged in a stiff tussle to secure the services of Morris, which drove his price up exponentially.

Ahead of the auction, Chris Morris had a base price of INR 75 lakhs. That figure became INR 16.25 crore by the time his bidding wrapped up. Yuvraj Singh held the record for the most expensive IPL player until now when Delhi Daredevils purchased him for INR 16 crore in 2015.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will be pondering about the decision to let Chris Morris go, instead of retaining him. They did seem interested in securing his services once again at the very beginning of the bid and were also joined by Mumbai Indians who were looking for yet another quality all-rounder to add to their already glittering squad. However, in the end it became a two horse race between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, two sides who had the biggest purses during the auction. Rajasthan Royals proved triumphant in their attempt and an all-round duo of Morris and Stokes looks lethal to say the least.
