IPL 2021 Auction | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) add Glenn Maxwell to their star-studded arsenal for INR 14.25 Crores

Glenn Maxwell once again became the subject of pretty intense bidding between franchises in the IPL auction. However, this time around it proved to be competitive as both Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) bidding drove his price really high. Glenn Maxwell became the fifth most expensive purchase in IPL history as Royal Challengers Bangalore proved successful in their attempt to sign him for INR 14.25 crores.

Glenn Maxwell was yet another high profile release ahead of the auction as Kings XI Punjab decided not to retain the Australian all-rounder. Their decision can be deemed to be justified given that Maxwell had a really poor IPL season in the UAE in 2020. In 13 matches, he could only make 108 runs at a rather dismal average and strike rate of 15.42 and 101.88 respectively. He could also manage just three wickets with the ball.

Maxwell proved to be inefficient in the middle order, a position where Kings XI Punjab really needed him to fire. Despite this, he has had a pretty solid career in the IPL. He has over 1500 runs at a strike rate of 154, which includes his highest score of 95.

IPL 2014 was when Glenn Maxwell was at his very best. He ended that season with 552 runs to his name at an average of 34.50 and a humongous strike rate of 187.75. Maxwell’s explosive knocks also powered Kings XI Punjab to the final that season, where they ended up losing to Kolkata Knight Riders.

Despite the inconsistent IPL season in UAE, Maxwell was in top form during the T20I and ODI series against India. Maxwell will be looking to revive his IPL career at Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he’ll be supported by the likes of Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. RCB can claim that they have managed to yet another star-studded name to their exciting batting arsenal.
