IPL 2021: David Warner reaches 10,000 T20 runs with fifty for SRH against CSK

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner achieved an incredible landmark in his longstanding playing career on Wednesday (April 28) by making his 10,000th run in T20 cricket.

David Warner reached the astonishing 10,000-run mark in his career in the shortest version of the game while playing an IPL 2021 fixture against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Warner, a world-renowned opening batsman for Australia, bagged the milestone after he struck the 40th run of his watchful half-century in Delhi versus the CSK attack.

David Warner had arrived into the contest with 9,960 runs in his T20 career spanning 303 matches, both internationally and domestically. But he ended it by further enriching his already fantastic record and now boasts of 10,017 runs at an average of nearly 40 and a strike-rate above 140.

Against CSK, David Warner’s 57 off 55 balls played its part in helping SRH reach a fighting total of 171/3 in their allotted 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first.

David Warner’s sedate batting was an acknowledgement of his team’s batting issues, especially in the middle-order, as he shelved his naturally explosive avatar once again and tried to bat deep into the innings from an end.

The knock only featured 3 fours and 2 sixes, with Warner depending mostly on strike-rotation to take the game forward in partnership with fellow half-centurion Manish Pandey.

David Warner’s T20 career tally also includes 81 matches for Australia at the international arena, where he has made 2,265 runs at an average of 31.45 and strike-rate of 139.72. While Warner has been a mainstay of the Australian batting, it is the IPL that has seen his best as a T20 batsman.

David Warner has now made 5,447 runs in his IPL career after 148 matches while averaging 42.22 and carrying a strike-rate of 140.13. The 34-year-old has made 4 hundreds and 50 half-centuries in the IPL. Warner holds the record for the most number of fifties by any player in the history of the league and is easily one of the greatest batsmen to play IPL cricket.
