IPL 2021: WATCH – KL Rahul Reaches 2,000 Runs For Punjab Kings (PBKS) With A Classy 91

India and Karnataka right-hand batsman, KL Rahul, recorded 2,000th run for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday (April 12).

Rahul, one of the most elegant batsmen in the modern-day game, achieved the landmark while playing against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in his team’s IPL 2021 campaign opener at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The classy batsman reached the great milestone through a magnificent knock of 91 runs off 50 deliveries, including 7 fours and 5 maximums, against an RR attack featuring the likes of Chris Morris, Mustafizur Rahman and Shreyas Gopal.

Rahul has made 2,013 runs for PBKS from 43 matches since joining the franchise back in 2018 with an average of 55.9 and strike-rate of 141.6. The half-century against RR was Rahul’s 18th in the PBKS jersey to go with his two centuries for the north India based franchise.

Rahul has now piled on 2,738 runs at an average of 45.63 and strike-rate of 136.96 in his overall 82-match-long IPL career, including matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as well previously.

Rahul, the PBKS skipper, once again shouldered most of the responsibility with the bat for his team and batted deep. Rahul bide his time earlier in the innings and didn’t worry much about going berserk in the powerplay overs, backing himself to accelerate later in the innings.

Rahul has faced criticism from various corners regarding his approach to T20 batsmanship in recent times, but the player seems firm with the trust in his plans and methods, as he hardly looked to hit a ball in anger during the field restrictions overs. Rahul attacked the bowling, instead, during the middle-overs and in the death stage after getting a perfect measure of the conditions.

In many ways, this was one of Rahul’s better T20 knocks in the last couple of seasons of IPL where, though he still batted watchfully at the start, the batsman also flourished thereafter and ensured that PBKS don’t lose out on crucial runs in their innings.

Not just the intent but the execution, too, was significantly better. It was only fitting then that Rahul’s 2000th run for PBKS would come during a batting effort of such high quality.
