Mumbai Indians (MI) are eyeing their sixth title ahead of the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which resumes on September 19.

The defending champions will get back to action after a four-month hiatus with a fixture against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Dubai on the opening day of the tournament’s second half.

Notorious slow starters, MI are placed fourth in the points table after the Indian leg, having won four and lost three of their seven completed matches.

Mumbai Indians are the most successful IPL franchise, with five titles to their name.

Mumbai Indians Playing XI Composition:-

Batsmen: Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan

Captain Rohit Sharma is leading the run-charts for MI at the moment, with 250 runs at an average of 35.71 and strike-rate of 128.20. Suryakumar Yadav is only second to him, having made 173 runs at 24.71 per innings and a strike-rate of 144.16. And though Kishan didn’t get going during the Indian leg, few would doubt his capabilities after the last season where he was pivotal to MI’s successful campaign.

Wk-bat: Quinton de Kock

De Kock adds immense value to the MI line-up being an aggressive top-order player and dependable keeper. De Kock made 155 runs from his six innings in India early this year and had struck 503 runs last year in UAE at a strike-rate of 140.50.

All-rounders: Kieron Pollard (pace), Hardik Pandya (pace), Krunal Pandya (spin)

The all-rounder trio of Pollard, Hardik and Krunal have been key to MI’s success over the years. Not only they can hit the ball a long way consistently during the end overs but can also chip in with tight overs as and when required. Hardly any other T20 team in the world can boast of such a luxury in their top 7.

Bowlers: Rahul Chahar, Adam Milne, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

In the bowling department, MI will bank heavily on their two frontline seamers Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and wristspinner Rahul Chahar. Chahar has been the top wicket-taker for MI this season with 11 scalps at 7.21 runs per over. Bumrah (6) and Boult (8) aren’t too far behind with economy rates of 7.11 and 8.46, respectively.

To round off the attack, MI are expected to pick an extra seamer at the initial stage and not a second specialist spinner. With that in mind, New Zealand’s Adam Milne is likely to be their first-choice pick. Milne bowled superbly in The Hundred in UK, taking 12 wickets from eight matches at an economy rate of only 5.73.
