Punjab Kings (PBKS) KL Rahul provided his opposition counterpart Virat Kohli a big let off at the start of Sunday’s (October 3) all-crucial IPL 2021 encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Rahul failed to make a relatively easy stumping opportunity count, providing Kohli a reprieve when the RCB great would’ve lost hopes of escaping the dismissal.

Kohli was completely done in by the delivery from young PBKS wristspinner Ravi Bishnoi. But thankfully from RCB’s perspective, their skipper and opening batter didn’t pay the ultimate prize as KL Rahul made a costly error.

KL Rahul’s missed stumping hands Virat Kohli a reprieve

KL Rahul made a rare error in judgement and execution since donning the gloves regularly for PBKS and India, giving Virat Kohli a reprieve.

The incident is from the first ball of the fourth ball in the RCB innings at Sharjah where modern-day legend Kohli was facing upto the promising Bishnoi.

With Kohli looking to dance down the track to try to exploit the powerplay field restrictions, his attempt was thwarted by another of Bishnoi’s sharp and skiddy googly.

Gauging Kohli’s intentions and his footwork early, Bishnoi bowled a googly further down the leg-side, ensuring it lands and goes away from the batter’s reach and arc.

But sadly for Bishnoi, while he successfully defeated Kohli’s stroke and saw the ball go through to the waiting KL Rahul, there was no reward for him in the form of a wicket.

Even though Rahul adjusted well with the line of the delivery initially, his failed attempt at collecting the ball meant that Bishnoi had to swallow the bitter pill.

Rahul couldn’t collect the ball cleanly. It hit him on his chest and lobbed in front of the stumps, allowing Kohli good enough time to get himself back in the crease while the on-field umpire termed it a wide.

To make matters worse for the PBKS captain, when he wouldn’t even have gotten over the Kohli stumping incident yet, he dropped the catch of in-form Devdutt Padikkal two balls later.
