Rishabh Pant is known for cheeky ways of getting things done, and once again, during the first qualifier of the 2021 IPL between Delhi and Chennai, the Capitals’ skipper was at it. His attempts at playing those one-handed shots back in the day were severely criticized by experts, as they felt, it was unnecessary.

In recent times, he did not attempt the one-handed six on many occasions, but he did so on Sunday, twice. During Shardul Thakur’s 16th over, the Indian medium pacer managed to deceive Pant with a slower delivery. However, he managed to have a swing at the ball by stretching his right hand, and connected it well enough to get a six over mid-wicket.

However, it was his second attempt that proved to be more comical. In Dwayne Bravo’s 19th over, he got under a full delivery and tonked it straight down the ground for a six. Rishabh Pant was at his typical best, getting runs in a way only he can, but what followed in the next delivery was even more jaw-dropping.

The 24-year-old tried to smash Bravo towards covers, but lost his bat in the process. Whilst the ball fell short of Deepak Chahar, who almost got close to complete a catch, the bat flew towards mid-wicket.

Rishabh Pant scores a fifty; Delhi end with 172

The skipper added a crucial 83-run stand with Shimron Hetmyer, that propelled the Delhi Capitals past the 170-mark. Despite not getting a truckload of runs in the final 3 overs, Pant completed his half-century and his side finished with a par score on this brilliant batting track.

Having struggled to get amongst the runs this season, Rishabh Pant saw this as an opportunity to stay till the end. After consuming a couple of overs to settle in, Pant and Hetmyer kept scoring boundaries at regular intervals and steered some crucial singles to keep the scorecard ticking. This partnership might potentially be the separating factor between both sides.
