IPL 2021: WATCH – Deepak Chahar Runs Through PBKS Batsmen In CSK’s Comprehensive Win

Deepak Chahar was back to his absolute best with the new-ball in Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) dominating win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this Friday (April 16).

Chahar’s scintillating opening burst saw him swing and seam the white Kookaburra ball with precision as he ran through PBKS top-order within the powerplay field restriction overs.

Deepak Chahar ended with stellar figures of 4/13 at the end of his four-over spell and helped CSK restrict PBKS to a paltry total of 106/8, which they later chased down comfortably with more than four overs to spare and six wickets still intact.

It was an outstanding comeback by Chahar, who hadn’t been as proficient with the ball in the previous match and the IPL 2020 in UAE last year.

Deepak Chahar first got the better of PBKS opener Mayank Agarwal, who played around a ball initially threatening to come into him with the angle but deviating away upon pitching to crash the stumps. It was just the kind of dismissal that Chahar needed as a confidence booster right at the start of the game.

Chahar, then troubled the mighty Gayle with the movement he was enjoying and got him to play a little earlier than he would’ve liked to a slower ball that the left-hander could only mishit as far as the point fielder.

With such prized scalps under his belt, Deepak Chahar followed them up with the wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda. While he got Pooran out caught off a bouncer to the deep square leg fieldsman, Hooda was sent back to the Pavillion after he also miscued a ball straight to mid-off.

All four batsmen were done in by the sheer class of Deepak Chahar’s bowling on the night, as he swung the ball both ways, the effect of which was only accentuated by the seam movement from the track at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

For making such a telling impact on the match, Deepak Chahar was also awarded the ‘Player of the Match’.
