IPL 2021: WATCH – Glenn Maxwell’s Measured Fifty Keeps RCB In The Hunt Against SRH

A good half-century from Glenn Maxwell amid a flurry of wickets around him kept Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the hunt in their IPL 2021 fixture in Chennai on Wednesday (April 14) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Maxwell batted very well for his measured knock of 59 runs off 41 deliveries, including 5 fours and 3 sixes, to help RCB stay afloat in the game even as they lost regular wickets at the other end. The team eventually reached a fighting total of 149/8 in their allotted 20 overs, mainly due to Glenn Maxwell’s effort.

Arriving at the crease post the powerplay field restriction overs with the RCB score reading 47/2, Maxwell produced one-third of the runs his team managed after losing their way a touch against an incisive SRH attack. Only skipper Virat Kohli (33) got going among the others and finished with the second highest individual score of the innings.

Glenn Maxwell’s resolve and temperament stood out through his innings, as he didn’t panic after a slow beginning against Rashid Khan in the middle-overs and having gone through that phase, looked to attack the bowling at the death.

In the build-up to the IPL 2021, we had found out how Glenn Maxwell’s best position in the RCB batting unit is No.3. But Maxwell seems to be relishing the trust shown and the clarity and consistency provided to him at No.4 by the RCB think-tank.

It hasn’t ever been easy to make project Glenn Maxwell work for IPL franchises. But RCB seems to be doing the right thing by focusing mainly on creating the right environment – both on and off the field – for Maxwell to succeed and letting the results take care of themselves.

The popular franchise will hope that their x-factor can continue to perform like this through the tournament as they look for that elusive IPL title.
