Suresh Raina’s comeback in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) jersey was one of the highlights of the second match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Saturday (April 10).
Raina, one of the legends of IPL cricket, rewind the clock and made the CSK fans nostalgic with a magnificent half-century at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against the Delhi Capitals (DC).
Suresh Raina blazed his willow for a stellar knock of 54 runs off 36 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes. The former India left-hand batsman was especially severe on DC’s experienced duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra.

Suresh Raina was looking good for so much more when his innings ended prematurely via a run-out batting alongside CSK teammate Ravindra Jadeja. Raina was sold down the river in an instance of massive miscommunication on the second ball of the 16th over in the CSK innings.
Jadeja nudged DC’s Indian paceman Avesh Khan to the on-side and called Raina across for a two initially. However, upon reaching the other end, Jadeja changed his mind after colliding with Khan as he walked back to his bowling mark.
But the time Jadeja could signal to Raina that the second run is no longer on, his partner had already taken a few strides forward. And as it happened, Suresh Raina was left stranded outside the crease when DC skipper and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant completed the run-out after collecting the throw from the fine leg fieldsman.
Raina would’ve been disappointed at the point, but the cricketer would’ve surely also felt a touch relieved on making such a successful comeback to IPL cricket in CSK colours. The 34-year-old had missed the entire last year’s edition of the IPL in UAE due to personal reasons.
While the reports of Raina’s fall out with CSK team management and ownership group did the rounds, the franchise debunked those when they retained one of their batting stalwarts for the IPL 2021.
Suresh Raina has an outstanding record to his name for CSK in his overall IPL career, with 5,422 runs from 194 matches at a strike-rate of 137.26 while averaging 33.46.
