IPL 2021 – WATCH: Sanju Samson playfully dodges question on batting order at the toss while sharing laughs with Pant

Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson was involved in a funny incident at the toss for his team’s second game of the UAE leg of the IPL 2021 on Saturday (September 25) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Abu Dhabi.

Samson made an amusing attempt at not revealing his team plan to opposition skipper and friend Rishabh Pant but ended up doing so anyway.

Upon winning the toss and opting to bowl first, the RR captain confirmed that two players – opening batsman Evin Lewis and fast bowling all-rounder Chris Morris – are “unavailable” for selection due to yet undisclosed reasons.

Sanju Samson tries his best ‘not’ to reveal Livingstone will open!

Further, Sanju Samson informed that middle-order batter David Miller and left-arm wristspinner Tabraiz Shamsi are coming in as replacements. Shamsi, notably, on debut after coming on board for the second half of IPL 2021.

Immediately thereafter, former England cricketer Nick Knight, who was hosting the toss as an anchor, asked whether fans will now see RR promote English middle-order batter Liam Livingstone up the order since Lewis is not there?

What followed was a funny reaction from Sanju Samson, who made the best of efforts to not unveil that it will indeed be the case but made it evident through his expressions that Livingstone will open on the day.

Sanju Samson said Livingstone “might” open the innings with a smirk as he turned towards Pant and burst out laughing.

Also at the toss, it was evident that Samson shares a great camaraderie and friendship with Pant. The moment Knight declared RR and Samson as the winner of the toss, Pant erupted in laughter while his India and former Delhi franchise teammate wore a grin looking towards him.

Having won the toss, Samson reasoned the excessively hot Abu Dhabi weather as the major factor behind his call to bowl first, saying he expects the surface to play better for batting in the second half.
