IPL 2021: WATCH – Suryakumar Yadav Hits Arshdeep Singh For A Glorious Six

Suryakumar Yadav may have had a premature end to his innings on Friday (April 23) in Mumbai Indians’ (MI) fifth game of the IPL 2021 against Punjab Kings (PBKS), but the right-hand batsman’s knock of 33 off 27 balls still featured some elegant strokeplay.

Suryakumar Yadav looked one of the more fluent MI batters on show on another spin-friendly, abrasive track in Chennai and struck three fours and a maximum during his stay at the crease.

Always a notch above the rest when it comes to his ability to handle spin, Suryakumar has also taken his game against pace to another level in the last couple of years.

A fine example of his improvement came when he struck PBKS left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh for the most glorious of sixes in the 13th over of the MI innings.

As Arshdeep came wider of the crease from the ’round-the-wicket’ angle for a left-arm pacer with the intention to try and cramp Suryakumar Yadav, the batter gauged the plan early and made room for him even before the ball was released to open up the off-side.

Despite taking a few steps towards the on-side, Suryakumar Yadav was still within the reach of the full-pitched delivery from Arshdeep and he went through with the shot, an uppish drive that he timed superbly for a maximum through the wide long-off region.

So confident was Suryakumar Yadav of the connection on the middle of the bat that he didn’t even care to look up while the ball scaled the heights and sailed over the boundary ropes. He may not be the classiest of strokemakers but Suryakumar has a tendency to play shots that remain with you.

That short only reflected the rich vein of form, which Suryakumar Yadav has carried with him since the last year’s edition of the IPL in UAE. The 30-year-old had a breakthrough IPL 2020, in which he made 480 runs from 16 innings at an average of 40.00 and strike-rate of 145.01.

Suryakumar was integral to MI successfully defending their crown and becoming IPL champions for the record fifth time. In the ongoing IPL as well, he remains one of the most crucial cogs in MI’s wheels.
