Ishant has a vital part of the Delhi Capitals franchise since the IPL last year, featuring in 13 of their matches last season. He missed out on the first few games this year due to a back injury and managed to play a solitary game against Sunrisers Hyderabad before being ruled out again.

This was the fourth major setback suffered by the Delhi Capitals in terms of player injuries. In their first IPL game this season, Ravichandran Ashwin had to walk off with a shoulder injury during the game against Punjab, from which he did recover eventually. Amit Mishra was ruled out of the tournament after sustaining a flexor tendon injury to his ring finger of his bowling arm while attempting to catch Nitish Rana off his own bowling against KKR, and a leg injury to Rishabh Pant has currently forced him out of action for a week.

DC have used the likes of Avesh Khan, Mohit Sharma and more recently Harshal Patel to fill Ishant’s void in the XI with neither of them managing to nail their spot. However, DC have still made a bright start to their campaign, winning five out of their seven games so far, sharing the top spot with Mumbai Indians.
