WATCH: 19-year-old Issy Wong Smashes Experienced Nat Sciver for Two Massive Sixes in The Hundred

The ongoing Hundred Women’s tournament has been producing some really exciting moments day after day and like any top-tier franchise tournament in a country, this competition has brought some fine young talent to the fore as well. One such memorable moment came on Sunday (August 1) when Issy Wong, a 19-year-old pacer plying her trade for Birmingham Phoenix, hit an experienced Natalie Sciver for two massive sixes.

The moment came in the 88th and 89th deliveries of the Phoenix innings. Wong had walked in to bat at No.9 with the team requiring 54 to win off just 19 deliveries. It already looked like a lost cause for Birmingham but the 19-year-old didn’t lose hope as he swung her bat at everything that came her way.

Both of Wong’s sixes against Sciver travelled more than 70 meters, which is quite a big distance. She played an excellent hand of 27 off just 11 deliveries before she was dismissed, caught and bowled by Katherine Brunt. Her innings couldn’t take the Phoenix home but it helped them to lessen the margin of victories against the Trent Rockets to just 11 runs.

It was quite an impressive display of batting considering that bowling is her primary skill. Wong had picked up a wicket earlier in the match as well and has three wickets to her name in the tournament so far in a total of four games. She is also recognized as one of the fastest pacers in Women’s cricket right now as she has recorded a speed of 70 miles/hour already. There is a good chance that she might become the fastest in Women’s cricket once she becomes more experienced, fitter and stronger.

Wong started her professional cricket career with Warwickshire in 2017. She was born in Chelsea, London, and is a British Citizen by birth. But her father has Chinese heritage and two of her great-uncles played cricket for Hong Kong as well. 

The teenager is yet to play for England but she has already been a part of the national squad when they embarked on a tour of New Zealand earlier this year in January. Wong has been quite impressive with her ability to bowl quick and if she can maintain her good performances, she will make her England debut soon.
