England fast bowling great James Anderson has been involved in quite a few on-field verbal altercations over the years. A bowler of the highest class and pedigree, Anderson has tended to get under the skins of the opposition players, which has resulted in multiple heated exchanges between him and others.

The just concluded Lord’s Test where he and Indian ace quick Jasprit Bumrah were seen giving each other a mouthful, with the ever expressive Virat Kohli also getting engaged, was certainly not the first such instance from the England pacer’s longstanding career.

One famous example of same is from England’s highly successful Ashes tour to Australia back in 2010-11 where he gave a befitting reply to a sledge from home team’s paceman Mitchell Johnson.

James Anderson is England’s highest ever Test wicket-taker.

When James Anderson left Mitchell Johnson shocked with a wicket

The incident is from the Perth Test of the series. Standing at the non-striker’s end, Johnson was heard telling Anderson, “why you are chirping now, mate, not getting the wickets?”.

Presumably, Anderson first said Johnson something before the left-hander also responded. But the ultimate winner of the tussle was the Englishman only, as he went on to dismiss the striker Ryan Harris bowled off the very next delivery.

The moment Anderson nailed the yorker to send Harris on his way, he immediately turned back towards Johnson with his hands raised and even gestured the pacer to shut his mouth thereafter.

James Anderson was the hero of what remains England’s last Ashes victory Down Under. The right-arm paceman bowled with great control and threat and ended the series as the top wicket-taker from either side. His 24 scalps at 26.04 with an economy rate of just 2.93 is regarded as one of the finest performances from a bowler in an away Test series victory.
