Jasprit Bumrah evokes memories of Jennings dismissal with perfect setup against Burns
Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah made an excellent start to the Test series against England on Wednesday (August 4) by dismissing opening batsman Rory Burns with a sharp inswinging delivery that evoked the memories of the famous Keaton Jennings dismissal from the previous tour.
In the very first over on Day 1 at Trent Bridge, Bumrah made a couple of deliveries nip away from Burns and set the left-hander for the one that came back in sharply to hit his pads and got his man LBW.

Anticipating another away going ball, Burns was left surprised when Bumrah got one to beat him on the inside edge and ruffle his front-pad halfway on the up. The bowler got the LBW shout in his favour on the field, before a DRS review taken by Burns further verified the on-field umpire’s call.
Fans recall the famous Keaton Jennings dismissal as Jasprit Bumrah sets up Rory Burns perfectly
The moment Jasprit Bumrah had Burns out in the fashion that he did, fans couldn’t help but find similarity to the wicket of Jennings from the 2018 series. Back then also, the pacer had set the left-hander for the one coming in by delivering a couple of away going balls.
Facing a new-ball burst from the unorthodox Indian fast bowler on Day 1 of the fourth Test in Headingley, Jennings, who was struggling throughout that series, had his troubles accentuated with another cheap dismissal.

The batsman comfortably left a couple of away going deliveries from Bumrah but was out soon by one that came in, which he seems to have not anticipated at all. Jennings was made to look like a fool as he shaped up to play a stroke through the off-side by opening up his stance, only to be done in by an inswinger that hit him plumb in front of the stumps.

The delivery also showcased Bumrah’s class and nous as a bowler. Not till that Jennings wicket had he bowled too many inswingers to the left-handers (outswingers to the right-handers) – with many believing that his action isn’t suited to bowl conventional swing away from the right-handers. But Bumrah proved all of them wrong.
