WATCH: Jasprit Bumrah’s Perfect Straight Drives that shocked the commentators

Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah made invaluable all-round contributions to help his team secure a memorable victory at Lord’s against England in the second Test this Monday (August 16).

Bumrah produced a vital knock of 34 not out off 64 balls from No.10 and then delivered an outstanding spell of 3/33 on Day 5 as the visitors overcame the hosts by a margin of 151 runs.

The ace quick’s batting contribution was especially commendable. With India only 182 runs ahead at 8 down in the second innings with almost an entire day’s play left, Bumrah stitched a pivotal 89-run stand with Mohammed Shami, who struck his second half-century (56*) in Test cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah gains in confidence with the bat, plays impressive straight drives at Lord’s

Inspired by the team situation and the exchange of words from close-in England fieldsmen, Jasprit Bumrah went on the offensive and played some exciting strokes through his unbeaten knock. He blazed his willow for three fours.

As he spent more time at the crease, Bumrah defended more comfortably and started playing straighter in the ‘V’ to England’s threatening pace attack.

An example of the cricketer’s growing confidence as a batter was reflected in how well he drove the ball back to fast bowlers Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood.

Bumrah played two impressive straight drives against the pace duo, albeit for no runs. On both occasions, the courageous right-hander played the ball a touch too straight and hit the stumps directly at the non-striker’s end.

Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle noted the quality of the two strokes and found the funny side of things when the batter hit the stumps and couldn’t get either of those for what would’ve been much-deserved boundaries.

“Whoever taught Jasprit Bumrah that straight drive did not tell him it needs to go a few inches either side of the stumps,” Bhogle said on air for Indian broadcaster Sony Sports.

Bumrah’s innings and partnership with Shami allowed India to post a target of 272 for England with about 60 overs to go in the contest. He then took three wickets, including the prized scalp of Joe Root on 33, to push his team towards victory.
