Reputed journalist’s article in Bengali daily on Ganguly-Kohli saga backfires, social media backs Kohli
Not for the first time, the reputed journalist and unofficial BCCI spokesperson, Boria Majumdar, backed Sourav Ganguly, this time regarding the press conference by Virat Kohli last week where he countered quotes from Ganguly a few days prior to that.
The journalist argues that “Ganguly has done the right thing by not speaking publicly” and criticises Kohli;s comments as “uncalled for”. Kohli had commented in the press conference that he wasn’t informed of the ODI captaincy change until the selection call for the Test team at the end of which Kohli was informed and the press release sent to outlets.
At the end of the selection call, I was told I won’t be the captain and I said okay. After the meeting we had a brief chat and that’s it. I was not communicated at all (about the captaincy change),” Kohli had said.
He also reaffirmed that contrary to what Sourav Ganguly said in an interview with News18, no one had asked him to continue as T20I captain when he went to the BCCI with his decision to step down from the role after the T20 World Cup.

What’s the latest?
The Bengali article cites nothing about Ganguly’s comments prior to the press conference but goes on to detail why Ganguly was right to hold silence and also takes on Kohli for going against the BCCI indirectly during the press conference as he is a “contracted player”
And, Boria Mazumdar gets into the act now. To summarise –
A. Kohli’s comments in the press conference were uncalled for, as he’s a contracted player. And, like a politician cannot criticise his/her parties policy in any public forum, Kohli isn’t permitted either. pic.twitter.com/dVMcTLveJN

When a user posted the screenshot of the daily with the translation in English, #CricketTwitter, or the group of cricket fans on the platform, reacted to it with more than a fair majority taking the side of Kohli.
B. Sourav Ganguly has done the right thing by not speaking publicly on the subject as the board president. He has to take care of his image, which has been tarnished by Kohli’s statements & for which he has been trolled wrongly.

The article also goes on to ask if the captain Kohli has faith in the BCCI and if not, how his existence in the role makes sense.
You missed an important one Mainak: “Does the captain not have faith in the BCCI? If so, is his existence (as captain) even justified?”

How does speaking truth becomes tarnishing image. He was asked about his sacking and he told the truth. It’s all fine that Ganguly lied to press but a problem when kohli speaks truth?

I’ve always found it ridiculous that Boria is regarded as any sort of authority of the game. I’ve yet to see some value in a thing he’s said about the game, the way it runs or an analysis of anything to do with cricket. https://t.co/MaAxnY3dnT

Proper election level PR propaganda is being run in bengal newspapers by Dada ke Dildos, won’t be surprised if Kohli gets booed next time he plays in Eden Garden. https://t.co/dVe2KLzM9p

Moral of the story:
Sourav Ganguly has taken this Virat matter on his ego. And when people like Dada get vengeful, they can wait days, months and even years for opportune moment to strike.
There are only two ways out for Kohli:
1. Score big again.
2. Dada’s BCCI tenure ends. https://t.co/hEGEdrlVqZ— Cricketjeevi (@wildcardgyan) December 19, 2021

Doesn’t humans have the right to stand up for themself? All he did was just to tell the truth without much harm to anyone didn’t even mention anyone’s name.Just because someone is under a contract of an organization doesn’t mean they will behave like a slave for the organization. https://t.co/AFZzRx3VvN

Just imagine they can stoop so low against the greatest player after sachin to play for India, then what shambolic level of politics they can play against lesser accomplished players. https://t.co/d0vrecHSF7

Recently, Ganguly had stated in response to Virat Kohli’s comments in the press conference that “We [BCCI] will deal with it, leave it to the BCCI.” In a recent event in Gurgaon, Ganguly went on to state that while he likes Kohli’s attitude, “he fights a lot”.
Even with the South Africa tour commencing right after Christmas, the focus is still on the not-so-public, yet public, BCCI – Kohli rift.
