AUS vs IND: Langer hopes Green can make a Test debut

Justin Langer is keeping his fingers crossed over the fate of Cameron Green for the first test match against India at Adelaide. Green suffered a mild concussion in the second practice match against India after being hit on the head by a shot from Jasprit Bumrah.

Cameron Green was substituted out of the practice match and was being monitored by Cricket Australia’s medical staff. He is currently in Adelaide having flown with the rest of the Australian A squad.

“Fingers crossed,” Langer told Channel Seven about Green’s availability for the first test. “The guys from Australia A arrived a couple of hours ago. He turned up with a big smile on his face. [A] massive opportunity potentially ahead for him to make his Test debut. He looks in really good spirits. He’s got training tomorrow and Wednesday. Fingers crossed he’ll be right to go – he’s a real talent.”

Australia have been hit with multiple injuries in the past few weeks. David Warner was ruled out of the first test with an adductor strain he suffered in the ODI series against India. Will Pucovski has been ruled out of the first test after suffering a concussion in the practice match against India.

Marcus Harris and Moises Henriques have been added to the test squad in the absence of David Warner and Will Pucovski who are now aiming to be fit for the Boxing Day Test. Mitchell Starc has also joined the Australian test squad after having left the camp on compassionate grounds after the first T20I against India.

“Wait and see on Thursday. We’ve got a very good team no matter which way we go. Dave Warner no doubt was a huge loss for us a few weeks ago, but I’m really confident that we’ve got enough batting to make a big difference in this series,” said Langer who is confident of his team putting up a good show in the first test.
