When KL Rahul hit Jasprit Bumrah for a memorable six

While he went off the boil for a while in Test matches, KL Rahul is one of the rare few traditional, orthodox batters who have been able to build successful careers in the shorter forms of the game.

Marrying technical correctness with intent and expanded range at the crease, Rahul was last year able to cement his spot in the ODI and T20I side as a wicketkeeper-batsman ahead of someone as promising as Rishabh Pant.

KL Rahul has hit many bowlers for some memorable shots, but the one remembered most fondly came off his own India teammate in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Facing his longstanding colleague and friend Jasprit Bumrah, who is a lead pacer for five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), Punjab Kings (PBKS) opening batsman Rahul smashed him for an effortless six through a lofted extra cover drive at Indore.

Even as Bumrah bowled a slower ball, Rahul backed his naturally good timing and just extended his defensive push, which was hit so well that it kept sailing over and reached the crowds sitting in the first tier at the stands.

Rahul has been the stand-out batsman for the Punjab franchise since his maiden season with them back in 2018. He has now scored 2,251 runs for the Mohali-based side from 49 innings at an average of 56.3 and strike-rate of 139.4. PBKS appointed KL Rahul as their full-time captain last season in UAE.
