Virat Kohli silences Barmy Army as battle with fan group continues

Virat Kohli sure knows how to rile up the opposition. The aggressive Indian skipper is known to get under the skin of fast bowlers and opposition team players, but on this tour, like a few before, he has shared an ongoing battle with the England fan group or the Barmy Army.

The group has been relentlessly trolling Kohli for his lack of runs and aggressive gestures since the onset of the tour.

The twitter handle of the Barmy Army is filled with posts on Kohli, trolling him for his actions. A few are given below.

They even waved Kohli a bye with a ‘cheerio’ song when he was dismissed once on this tour.

In the latest addition to the list, on day five of the fourth Test against England, Kohli gave it back to the fan group after India were on top following a terrific phase in which they picked four wickets in six overs. Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah shared four wickets between them in the phase with Jadeja starting the slide after he cleaned up Haseeb Hameed.

Bumrah then removed Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow with terrific deliveries and Moeen Ali was sent back by Jadeja. Kohli celebrated the wicket by showing the trumpet sign at the Barmy Army group even as his teammates celebrated the wicket.

The group posted a photo of the same, inviting Kohli to join the group and even sent out the link to the application page.

The battle is likely to persist till the end of the series with Barmy Army, like Kohli, known to be relentless in riling up opposition team players.
