3 London Spirit Players who could end up with most runs in The Hundred Men’s Competition 2021

London Spirit are one of the eight franchise teams taking part in the inaugural edition of The Hundred. The team representing county clubs Middlesex, Essex and Northamptonshire will be eyeing the maiden 100-ball competition title in the tournament starting July 22.

The London Spirit have ‘Home of Cricket’ Lord’s as their home venue, where they’ll get to play four of their eight league matches. The Eoin Morgan led side will be in tussle to bag the top 3 spots in the points table, which would keep them in the hunt for The Hundred trophy.

A finish on top of the standings will give them a direct entry into the final on August 21, while a second or third position finish will force them to play the Eliminator in order to become the second finalists.

Led by Morgan, England’s world-renowned skipper himself, The London Spirit boast of a wealth of experience within their talented squad, with good batters, decent bowlers and quality all-rounders. With focus on the batting front today, we enlisted a few names who could be prolific run-makers for London Spirit in The Hundred this summer.

Can Eoin Morgan lead London Spirit from the front?

Which London Spirit batsman could be the highest run-maker of The Hundred?

1. Josh Inglis

Inglis, the Australian uncapped batsman, is an obvious candidate from London Spirit side to finish on top of the run-charts for the competition considering the great form he is carrying with him. Inglis, who came into the Spirit squad as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell, has been fantastic for Leicestershire in the ongoing T20 Blast. The right-hander has struck 371 runs from his 12 innings at an average of 37.10 and strike-rate of 167.11. His tournament tally includes his best of 103 off 62 balls versus Northamptonshire.

Ignored by the national selectors for the tour of West Indies and Bangladesh despite playing well in the Big Bash League (BBL) and in List A competition domestically, Inglis will have the chance to knock on their doors harder with his stint for London Spirit in The Hundred.

2. Eoin Morgan

Facing question marks over his form for a while, Morgan will have the opportunity to silence his doubters with a bumper season as London Spirit captain. Morgan has tended to relish the extra responsibility of captaining and batting in the middle-order and has the same challenge ahead of him with the London franchise.

Morgan showed encouraging signs of returning to his best with an unbeaten 75 against Sri Lanka in a recent ODI at The Oval and will be hoping to carry that forward with him into The Hundred, leading his team from the front.

3. Zak Crawley

A dark horse among contenders to finish as the top run-getter could be Kent’s right-hand batsman Zak Crawley, who, although out of form in Test match cricket for England at the moment, has been a regular contributor in white-ball cricket this summer.

Crawley has made 281 runs from his 7 innings for Kent in the T20 Blast 2021 with an average of 40.14 and strike-rate of 155.24. On Thursday (July 8), the elegant right-hand batsman made a promising ODI debut against Pakistan, playing a freeflowing knock of 58 not out off 50 balls in England’s comfortable win in Cardiff.
