Manchester Originals will be representing the famous county club of Lancashire in the inaugural edition of The Hundred. Based at the Emirates Old Trafford, the Originals are one of the eight franchise teams taking part in the first-ever 100-ball competition, beginning July 22.

Manchester Originals will play four games at their home venue and move around England for the rest of their eight-game league campaign. The league-based tournament will witness a strenuous battle among teams to try and finish within the top 3 sides, which would allow them to enter the next stage and be in contention to claim the coveted title at Lord’s on August 21.

While possessing some stand-out bowlers in their ranks, the Originals also boast of few exceptional batsmen for The Hundred, with the likes of Jos Buttler, Sam Hain, Phil Salt, Colin Munro among others available to them.

Manchester Originals batsmen who could be The Hundred’s highest run-maker

1. Sam Hain

Warwickshire right-hand batsman Sam Hain is a quality inclusion to the Manchester Originals squad for The Hundred this summer. The 25-year-old cricketer will be entering the 100-ball competition with some great form behind him in the T20 Blast.

Hain has made 293 runs from his 10 Blast fixtures for Birmingham Bears this season at a strike-rate of 140.19 while maintaining an average of 41.85. His tally includes as many as three half-centuries, including a best of 69 not out. Hain, considered one of the brightest young talents in English domestic scene, will be hoping to play to his potential in The Hundred and bang the selectors’ doors hard.

2. Colin Munro

New Zealand’s aggressive left-hand batsman Colin Munro is also part of the Manchester Originals squad. Munro enters The Hundred with some strong body of work behind him in T20 cricket. The Kiwi gent has struck 1,724 runs from 65 T20Is for his country at an average of 31.24 and strike-rate of 156.44, including three centuries and 11 fifties.

He has also been a regular feature in leagues across the globe, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL) where he made 285 runs at an average of 57.00 and strike-rate of 169.64 this year. Munro’s quickfire starts could be influential to Originals’ cause in their first-ever campaign.

3. Phil Salt

Sussex’s 24-year-old right-hand batsman Phil Salt is another of Manchester Originals’ in-form players this summer. Salt has been one of the best batsmen doing the rounds in the T20 Blast 2021, with an eye-catching record to his name.

He has made 262 runs from 8 matches for Sussex in the ongoing T20 Blast with an average of 52.40 and strike-rate of 155.02. The youngster has smashed three scores of 50 or beyond in the competition with a best of unbeaten 77 against Gloucestershire in Bristol last month.
