A colourful character off the field, England fast-bowler Mark Wood was seen on a hospital bed after surgery under the influence of anaesthetic talking hilariously about the prospect of missing the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The right-arm quick was all set to represent the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after being bought for a sum of INR 7.50 crores at the IPL 2022 mega auction in Bangalore last month. But an elbow injury suffered during England’s first Test of the tour of the Caribbean against West Indies jeopardised his IPL stint with the Giants.

The pacer is currently undergoing a rehabilitation process with an eye to regain 100% fitness ahead of the home summer, starting in June. As part of the same, Mark Wood was seen laying down on a hospital bed after his elbow surgery, while amusingly talking to his inner noise on painfully missing the IPL 2022.

However, the cricketer known for his speed on the field and humour off it, was seen giving his pain a funny twist by doing a hilarious clip of him talking to his inner voice.

In the clip posted on Twitter by England’s fanclub ‘Barmy Army’, Wood was seen talking to himself. At one point he says it is “weird” that his elbow is feeling sore after an elbow surgery, while at the other he just as hilariously mentions he likes Andy Flower as a man, indirectly urging the LSG head coach to keep him in mind for the team’s 2023 plans.

Mark Wood was considered an integral part of Giants’ plans for the IPL 2022 after they made a passionate bid for him at the auction in Bangalore. The England quick was expected to lead the team’s pace attack for all their games and help them lift the coveted crown.

But in his absence, LSG were forced to bring in Australia’s Andrew Tye as a replacement, with Zimbabwean quick Blessing Muzarabani added to their net-bowling ranks.
