WATCH: Marnus Labuschagne does a Stuart Broad with his celebrappeal; Warner, Paine tease him
Marnus Labuschagne indulged in a bit of celebrappeal that Stuart Broad will definitely be proud of. The Australia and Queensland cricketer was seen making an overly confident appeal to the umpire, going ahead with his sprint and celebrations even as the on-field umpire remained unmoved.
This incident came to light on Day 2 of Queensland’s Sheffield Shield encounter with Tasmania on Friday (October 8). Labuschage bowling some of his part-time wristspin to Tasmania batter Tim Ward in the 94th over of the innings, got the right-hander missing a sharp leg break.
The ball turned viciously from the down leg side to hit Ward on his back leg. Excited having made a well-set batter miss a delivery in such an impressive fashion, Labuschagne started racing across the other end with his arms raised. He was absolutely convinced that he has got his man LBW.

However, the on-field umpire didn’t raise his finger, as he and the commentators took note of the fact that the ball had pitched outside the leg-stump. A batter can’t be dismissed LBW if the ball has landed down the leg side.
But Labushagne didn’t care for the rules in those few moments and funnily went ahead with his celebrations, only for his hopes to be dashed by the on-field umpire. Even the commentators took a jibe at the bowler, with one of them stating in no uncertain terms “No Marnus, it’s not out”.

Not too long after the clip of Marnus Labuschagne doing his celebrappeal did the rounds over Twitter, his Australian teammates David Warner and Tim Paine took the mickey out of him.
Warner sarcastically said he can’t believe that the always involved and expressive Labuschagne would do something like this. To which, Paine felt he did a decent job but not to the extent that Broad, the master of celebrappeals, would be impressed.

All three of Paine, Warner and Labuschagne will be back playing Test cricket together not too long from now when Australia finally break their extended 10-month hiatus and face arch-rivals England in another battle for the Ashes at home.
The first Test begins on December 8 in Brisbane, followed by matches in Adelaide (Dec 16-20), Melbourne (Dec 26-30), Sydney (Jan 5-9) and Perth (Jan 14-18).
