WATCH: Meg Lanning smashes stumps with bat, but sends ball to the fence

The iconic Meg Lanning has done some outrageous things in her career, many of which left our eyebrows raised and jaws dropped. On Sunday, however, she was at the receiving end of something awkward, which doesn’t usually happen for a player of her standards. Not many would expect someone as positionally aware as Lanning to misjudge her feet movement.

Having picked up just 38 runs and lost Alyssa Healy in the power play, Australia were in desperate need of a momentum change in order to register a big score batting first in the final T20I against India. Meg Lanning tried to up the ante in the 7th over against Rajeshwari Gayakwad and scored one boundary off the fifth ball of the over.

Off the last ball, she tried to get on the back foot and she cut it between the gap between point and third-person fielder who were inside the circle. The ball raced to the boundary, but unfortunately for Lanning, she went back a little too much, with her bat swing clipping the stumps. India got a lucky breakthrough in the form of a hit-wicket and Lanning walked back having scored just 14 runs.

Not often do we witness a batter of Lanning’s outrageous ability get dismissed this way and it got plenty on social media talking. Here’s the video of that dismissal.

India’s visit a forgettable outing for Meg Lanning

Known for her vivacious craftiness with the bat, Meg Lanning is the marathon lady in the Australian side who chips in with big knocks at regular intervals. That wasn’t to be the case for the Aussie skipper in India’s tour Down Under, as she scored just one half-century in the 7 opportunities she got to bat across 3 ODIs, 1 Test and 2 T20Is.

Despite starting the series with a half-century in the first ODI, she picked up scores of 6 and 0 in the ODI series, and she didn’t chip in with anything special in the Test. Her dismal form continued in the T20I series, with scores of 15 and 14.
