Mitchell Starc granted compassionate leave; to miss last two T20Is against India

Mitchell Starc will miss the last two T20Is between Australia and India due to a family illness and Cricket Australia are fully supportive of the decision.

After Pat Cummins was rested for the first T20I leg of the long Australian summer, the hosts will now have to grapple without one of their best bowlers. Mitchell Starc missed the third ODI due to soreness but returned back in time to play the Canberra T20I. But as things stand right at this moment, he is not going to partake in the last two T20Is.

“There is nothing in the world more important than family and in this case Mitch is no exception,” head coach Justin Langer said. “We will give Mitch all the time he needs and welcome him back into the squad with open arms whenever he feels the time is right for him and his family.”

Although Starc was not at his potent best in the ODI series, producing combined figures of 1-149 in the first two games, he bowled a terrific delivery to Shikhar Dhawan to take his off-stump for a walk in the first T20I which everyone felt would kick-start his revival.

Starc’s return for first Test unknown yet

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that the Australian Test regulars are slated to join the remainder of the unit next week to prepare for the Pink-ball Test in Adelaide, but Starc’s situation is unknown yet although it seems like there will be some certainty by next week.

Given Andrew Tye and Daniel Sams are already in the squad, Cricket Australia haven’t announced any replacement for the T20I series, with one of the aforementioned duo might take over the role.
