The closing stages of the second T20I between Bangladesh and New Zealand this Friday (September 3) saw hosts’ left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman deliver an absolutely bizarre no-ball.

The unorthodox speedster delivered a dangerous beamer that could’ve hurt even tourists’ well-set batsman Tom Latham but he somehow still managed to sneak in an important boundary off it.

The over-high illegal ball not only gave Latham a four but also kept New Zealand in the game when the situation had reached hopeless proportions.

Mustafizur Rahman bowled a rare beamer against Tom Latham.

Tom Latham eke out a boundary despite Mustafizur Rahman’s beamer

The incident happened on the penultimate delivery of the game. With the Kiwis requiring 13 runs to wins off the last 2 balls, Mustafizur Rahman lost complete control of an attempted slower ball and ended up bowling a beamer.

Having initially shaped up to play a sweep by the looks of it, Latham was left surprised when the ball started getting too big on him.

With hardly any time to change his stroke, the left-hander took evasive action and tried to flick the ball with his willow in the air.

Fortunately for him and to the despair of Mustafizur, Latham just enough bat on the ball for it to quickly run past the wicketkeeper’s right and race towards the fine-leg boundary.

The umpire signalled a no-ball and New Zealand were suddenly back in the contest, now requiring a more realistic 8 runs off the two legal deliveries remaining.

Thankfully for Bangladesh, the usually brilliant Mustafizur Rahman got back to bowling more accurately from the very next ball and gave away only three off the last two deliveries, as the home team secured victory by 4 runs.
