Bangladesh speedster Mustafizur Rahman took an excellent return catch in the fourth T20I of the five-match series against New Zealand on Wednesday (September 8) in Dhaka.

In one of the most exciting caught & bowled efforts seen on a cricket field, Rahman dived wide to his left and grabbed hold of the ball to help his team dismiss the visitors’ lower-order batsman Cole McConchie

Fast bowlers tend to be notoriously better at fielding on their own bowling than others’, but this was, truly, an amazing piece of athleticism and a catch that shall be remembered in times to come.

Mustafizur Rahman’s magnificent return catch

The grab was witnessed during the 16th over of the New Zealand innings. With the tourists slipping to a disastrous 74/6, McConchie, the off-spinner, and the rest of the Kiwi lower-order were left to try and somehow take their team to a reasonably competitive total.

Desperate to take every run possible, McConchie seemingly looked to nudge the ball delivered outside his off-stump through on-side. However, he was too early into his stroke against another slow cutter from Mustafizur Rahman and could only lob the ball as far as the bowler.

But the catch wasn’t at all straightforward, as the left-arm seamer was forced to make an accurate but exhilarating dive to his left just to grab hold of the ball.

What was especially commendable is how alert Mustafizur was of the situation and  nimble enough on his feet to shift against the momentum and complete the catch.

Even as he landed on the surface and rolled across, the bowler made sure that the ball stayed within his hands and there was no respite via a drop for the opposition batsman.

This was not the first time that Mustafizur Rahman had a visiting batsman absolutely bamboozled with pace off the ball on dry and spin-friendly track at the Shere Bangla.

The pacer has been brilliant with his variations and ability to nail the yorker when required in the ongoing home T20I season.

Since the start of the T20I series versus Australia last month, ‘Fizz’, as he is affectionately called among fans, has taken 15 wickets from nine games at an average of 9.86 and economy rate of only 4.72.

On the day against New Zealand, he finished with astonishing figures of 4/12 off 3.3 overs, triggering the Kiwis’ downfall to just 93 all out.
