Fielders’ ability to pick up catches on the boundary by collecting the ball and throwing it back inside has improved drastically over the years. Nepal teenager Rohit Paudel picked up one such sensational catch during their Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match against Oman.

During Oman’s run-chase, Jatinder Singh was scoring runs for fun, and in his pursuit to keep the momentum going, he smashed Kushal Malla down the ground. It seemed like he had managed to get enough distance on it, before Rohit Paudel from long-on came running in and pluck one hand in thin air. The ball managed to stick, before he hopped it in the air, avoided the threat of getting in touch with the boundary, then completing a sensational catch.

Jatinder stood there perplexed, waiting for a final response from the umpires. The catch managed to raise the spirits among Nepalese fielders, who were otherwise having a tough time. Upon some deliberations between the umpires, they had decided to send the batter back to the dressing room.

Oman thrash Nepal courtesy Jatinder’s century

Nepal batted first in their World Cup league 2 game against Oman, but found it difficult to get going. The Omanis bowlers kept it tight and restricted most of their batters from scoring freely. Besides Aasif Sheikh’s 113-ball 90, there was no other major contribution coming from their lineup, ultimately restricting them to 196 runs in 47.4 overs before getting bowled out. Bilal Khan starred for Oman with figures of 4/47.

In response, Jatinder Singh, the Omanis opener, went hell for leather against the Nepalese bowlers. He had scored a century in 60 balls, before that outstanding catch from Paudel sent him back. However, by the time he was dismissed, Oman needed just 35 runs with the best part of 24 overs remaining. Oman won the game by 5 wickets with 97 deliveries remaining, extending their lead at the top of the league two table with 18 points in just 11 games.
