3 Northern Superchargers Players who could end up with most runs in The Hundred Men’s Competition 2021

Northern Superchargers are one of eight franchise teams taking part in the inaugural edition of The Hundred, starting July 22. The Faf du Plessis led side will be in a race to bag the maiden 100-ball competition trophy in the UK.

The Superchargers represent the famous clubs of Yorkshire and Durham and have the ground in Headingley as their home base. They’ll get to play four of their eight league stage matches in Leeds only and move around UK for the rest of their campaign.

Du Plessis’ troops will be in tussle to claim one of the top 3 spots at The Hundred points table, which would help them make the competition’s next round. A top table finish will give Northern Superchargers a direct entry into the final at Lord’s on August 21, while a second or third place finish will see them play the Eliminator to try and become the second finalists.

The Superchargers possess a decent squad for their first-ever campaign, with the likes of Du Plessis, Chris Lynn and Ben Stokes part of their top 6 and the David Willey, Mujeeb Ur Rahman included in their bowling options.

With their batting in focus today, we tried to enlist a few names who could potentially get on a roll with the bat for Northern Superchargers and finish as The Hundred’s highest run-maker.

Faf du Plessis will be captaining the Northern Superchargers

Who could top The Hundred’s run-charts among the Northern Superchargers batsmen?

1. Faf du Plessis

Northern Superchargers signed former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis as their skipper recently after Australian Aaron Finch opted out of The Hundred. Du Plessis would’ve felt buoyed by the captaincy recognition, having endured an indifferent period with the bat for a while.

Du Plessis announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier in the year to focus solely on T20 cricket going forward. Hence, the stint with Northern Superchargers is a fantastic opportunity for Du Plessis to rejuvenate himself as a batter in the build-up to the T20 World Cup in UAE and the competition’s next year’s edition in Australia.

2. Chris Lynn

Lynn is expected to be one of Northern Superchargers’ first-choice batsmen for the summer ahead. The attacking Australian right-hander is a proven destroyer of opposition bowling and field settings at his very best. Lynn, who warmed the benches for most of the early part of IPL 2021 and didn’t play the second half of the PSL 2021, will be eyeing some regular opportunities and more game time in the middle via The Hundred. If he gets going, Lynn can singlehandedly tilt matches in the Superchargers’ favour. Lynn has an overall T20 career strike-rate of 143.69 with 5,775 runs across 211 matches.

3. Harry Brook

Yorkshire’s 22-year-old right-hand batsman Harry Brook has been in fantastic limited-overs form in the ongoing English summer. Brook is right now at the top of the run-charts in the T20 Blast 2021 with 463 runs from his 11 innings at a strike-rate of 155.36 and average of 92.60. His tournament tally including a best of 91 not out from 50 deliveries against Lancashire. Brook has now struck 1,019 runs at an average of 40.76 and strike-rate of 150.07 in his domestic T20 career – an exceptional record, reflective of his talent and overall ability.
