Representing the famous counties of Yorkshire and Durham in the inaugural edition of The Hundred are the Northern Superchargers franchise. Led by Faf du Plessis, Superchargers are one of the eight participating sides eyeing the maiden 100-ball competition trophy.

The Northern Superchargers have Headingley as their home base where they’ll play four of their eight league stage matches in quest to try and finish among the top 3.

A top of the table finish will give Superchargers a direct entry into the tournament final at Lord’s, while a second or third place end will see them play the Eliminator to try and earn the second finalist’s spot.

Having already focused on their batsmen, today we’ll shed light on Superchargers’ bowling unit, which comprises of David Willey, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Adil Rashid and Callum Parkinson among others for what is expected to be a challenging campaign.

Northern Superchargers will depend quite largely on these gents to try and provide them control and wicket-taking threat throughout the competition. In what is likely to be a tournament of giant totals, one spell here and there could make a massive difference in the outcome of the games.

Left-arm pacer David Willey will be playing for the Northern Superchargers

Northern Superchargers bowlers who can finish as The Hundred’s top wicket-taker

1. David Willey

It isn’t acknowledged enough, but David Willey is easily one of the better fast bowling exponents of the left-arm angle in world cricket. Willey has taken 69 wickets from 52 ODIs and 37 wickets from 30 T20Is for England in his career so far.

The 31-year-old pacer was fantastic during the recent series against Sri Lanka, where he took three wickets from his two T20I outings at an economy rate of just 5.50 and bagged 9 scalps from the three ODIs that followed while giving away 5.33 runs per over.

2. Callum Parkinson

Left-arm spinner Callum Parkinson could be another strong candidate from the Northern Superchargers attack for The Hundred’s highest wicket-taker’s tag. Parkinson, the 24-year-old twin brother of Matt Parkinson, has been fantastic for Leicestershire in this season’s T20 Blast where he has taken 16 wickets from his 12 outings while going for 7.33 runs per over.

In his overall T20 career, Parkinson has taken 68 wickets from 64 games while maintaining a very respectable economy rate of 7.52. Parkinson will be integral to Superchargers’ middle-overs plan during the forthcoming 100-ball tournament.

3. Adil Rashid

England’s premier white-ball spinner Adil Rashid hasn’t been as active in the wickets column in the last couple of seasons, but a fresh stint with Northern Superchargers for what will be a new 100-ball format may just bring the best out of him.

Rashid has had a significant limited-overs career for England, with 159 ODI and 59 T20I wickets while going for 5.65 and 7.45 runs per over in the two formats, respectively. Rashid will be eyeing a bumper season with the Superchargers ahead of the T20 World Cup in UAE.
