In a clip shared over Twitter, one could hear Virat askinjg Anderson “Swearing at me again?” before telling him it is “not your f…backyard”.

Walking into bat with India 27/2, having levelled up with England’s first-innings total of 391 after posting 364 themselves, Kohli had just gotten going with a boundary a couple of overs before. Then following the fourth ball of the 17th over, while the Indian skipper stood at the non-striker’s end, Anderson had a word or two to say to his longstanding rival.

The idea of course was to disturb the batter’s concentration at the crease. Anderson and England identified Kohli as their biggest hurdle towards a potential victory at the ‘Home of Cricket’ and to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.

As it happened, England did get the big fish soon thereafter, with Kohli getting out nicking to a ball from Sam Curran at the individual score of 20.

Anderson, three lions’ highest-ever Test wicket-taker shares a rivalry with the Indian captain spanning multiple series home and away. In England alone, it has been a battle of attrition between the two. While Anderson dominated the contest in 2014, Kohli held his own in the summer of 2018 and didn’t get out even once.

At the start of the ongoing series in Trent Bridge, Anderson had Kohli out edging behind off his very first delivery to the great batsman.

It would be interesting to see what else there is in store between these two in what could well be Anderson’s last few Test matches bowling to Kohli.
