Phil Salt added to reserves for ODI series against Australia

Sussex opening batsman Phil Salt has been included in the bio-bubble for the 3-match ODI series against Australia, which is set to commence right after the third T20 on Tuesday. He will be the third player to be instated on the reserve bench after Joe Denly and Saqib Mahmood.

Salt, an attacking opening batsman by nature, averages 32.93 in List A cricket, with one hundred and two fifties in 16 innings. Unfortunately for his county side Sussex, Salt, who has been in red-hot form in the ongoing Bob Wills Trophy England’s premier domestic first-class competition, scoring 3 half-centuries from four matches this season, will miss out on their next game, against Surrey.

Although Salt has mainly been called as a cover-up for Jason Roy, England will be hopeful of the Surrey opener playing some part in the ODI series. Roy, who has pulled out of the IPL and missed the T20I series against Pakistan and Australia with a side strain, will be reassessed in the coming days.

England commence their ODI campaign against Australia on September 11, with further matches on 13th and 16th, all to be played at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester.
