BCCI still considering the possibility of holding the Ranji Trophy

Sourav Ganguly, President of BCCI is determined to stage the Ranji Trophy this year, however BCCI are not quite certain if they grant the President’s wish. “He is serious that the Ranji Trophy should be conducted at any cost,” said an important member of the BCCI. “Can we pull it off? We don’t know.”

The Apex members of the BCCI council met on Sunday evening and considered two options- whether to hold the Ranji Trophy or national one-day championship, Vijay Hazare. The members decided to give themselves more time to make a decision. Despite recent health issues, Ganguly was among the members who attended the meeting which was held over zoom call.

The BCCI cannot find a suitable window for the Ranji Trophy with the ongoing Syed Mustaq Ali trophy going on until January end and with IPL scheduled to be held in April-May. However, Ganguly suggested that the Ranji Trophy could be held in two phases, one before the IPL and one after. The problem with such an arrangement is the weather and the bio bubbles which will have to be created twice for the tournament.

“It will have to be a mega exercise as bio bubbles will have to be created and recreated,” said the BCCI member. The office-bearers will make the final call. In addition, there is no problem whatsoever in holding the Vijay Hazare trophy.
