WATCH: When Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina had an on-field fight

If one were to enlist two of India’s best fielders and the most light-hearted characters on the field, the names of Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja would be right up there.

The two India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammates have played a lot of cricket with each other and are known for their pleasent on-field avatar.

However, there was one rare instance where, contrary to their calming personalities, the duo completely lost their cool and had a go at each other in evident anger.

Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja involved in a heated exchange.

Why Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja had a go at each other?

The incident is from a tri-series played in the Caribbean back in 2013, in which Sri Lanka featured as the other side. Facing hosts West Indies in a second round fixture at Port of Spain, India were defending a DLS adjusted score of 273 in a weather-effected game.

Following a breakthrough, as Indian fielders took their sipper, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja were seen trying to talk and mend ways over an unspecified issue.

One could see that Jadeja was clearly not pleased with Raina over something, and didn’t seem interested in talking with his teammate even as he tried to converse with him.

This was after the two had already shared a heated exchange where Jadeja was seen going up to Raina in anger and giving him a mouthful.

Thankfully, the matter did not escalate from there as the rest of the Indian players helped calm things down and perhaps Raina and Jadeja realised that they should not cross the line in the heat of the moment.

They were seen talking more calmly while going back to the shed at the completion of the game, which India won by 112 runs.

For a while, it wasn’t clear why exactly did the two such cool and jovial characters had a go at each other. But replays indicated that the verbal altercation was about Jadeja’s disgust and expression of anger following Raina’s failed attempted catch earlier in the game.

Even as close-in fieldsman Bhuvneshwar Kumar signalled that the catch is his, Raina decided to go for the grab himself but ended up missing the ball by a distance. That rare communication error on Raina’s part and the drop of what should’ve been a comfortable catch didn’t please Jadeja at all and he made that clear to his more experienced teammate.
