AUS vs IND: Ravindra Jadeja likely to be ruled out of remainder of Test series

Ravindra Jadeja is understood to have suffered a dislocation of his left thumb which is likely to keep him out of the remainder of Sydney Test and also puts his participation in the fourth Test in doubt.

The all-rounder was struck by a rising delivery from Mitchell Starc on his left thumb during the third’s day play. He continued to bat after taking on-field consultation from the physio, but he did not take the field for Australia’s second innings. Jadeja was taken to the hospital for a few quick scans. Rishabh Pant also suffered a blow on the elbow and was taken for scans. However, Pant was spotted back at the SCG and is likely to bat in the second innings.

“Ravindra Jadeja has suffered a dislocation and fracture on his left thumb. It will be very difficult for him to wear those gloves and bat,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on Saturday (January 9). “In any case, he will be out of action for at least two to three weeks which rules him out of the final Test. Pant will be able to bat as his injury isn’t that serious.”

Ravindra Jadeja’s injury is a major concern for the visitors given his all round performance with the bat, ball and on the field. Jadeja picked up four wickets in the first innings and produced a brilliant run out of Steven Smith with a direct hit. More importantly, India will be reduced to just 10 men in the ongoing third Test match.
