Preview for SA vs SL Dream11 Contest:

South Africa will be taking on Sri Lanka in the two team’s must-win encounter in the T20 World Cup 2021 on Saturday (October 30) afternoon in Sharjah.

The two countries will lock horns for their respective third Super 12 fixture of the tournament, having won one and lost one of their previous two games.

While Lankan Lions faced a defeat against Australia on Thursday (October 28) after winning their first Group 1 encounter over Bangladesh, the Proteas comeback successfully from their loss to the Aussies via an impressive win over West Indies on Tuesday (October 26).

A win here will keep their semi-final hopes alive, while a defeat would put a significant dent on those chances. Thus, this does feel like a virtual knock-out of sorts for two teams that have faced each other a lot in the recent past.

Probable Playing XI:

South Africa – Temba Bavuma (c), Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, Dwaine Pretorius, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi

Sri Lanka – Kusal Perera (wk), Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Avishka Fernando, Wanindu Hasaranga, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Kumara, Maheesh Theekshana

Weather Update: Sunny; 34 degrees C; wind 9 Km/h

Pitch Report: The track in Sharjah has gone progressively true since the start of the Super 12s. The ground played excessively dry and spin-friendly in the two matches of the preliminary stage but since then, we have seen batters enjoy relatively greater pace and bounce on the bat. It would still be dry in the afternoon sun but not to the extent we saw in UAE leg of IPL 2021.

SA vs SL Dream11 Prediction

Can South Africa keep Sri Lanka at bay in the SA vs SL Super 12 encounter?

This is going to be a battle of the two spin attacks. While Sri Lanka posses two mystery weapons in Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga, South Africa also have fine bowlers in Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj. In September, when Proteas toured the Island nation, their spinners outbowled the oppositions’ during the T20Is, leading to a 3-0 series victory.

Other than that, both sides have a vulnerable batting unit. But what gives South Africa an edge is that they definitely boast of a better pace attack in the presence of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. The Proteas are also bolstered by the return of Quinton de Kock. If South African batters can keep Hasaranga and Theekshana at bay, expect them to come out on top.

SA vs SL Dream11 Captaincy Picks

1. Wanindu Hasaranga (9.5 credits)

Sri Lanka’s lead spinner Hasaranga has been in his magnificent form with the ball in the T20 World Cup so far. The young mystery spinner has been his team’s most exceptional bowler on show with 8 scalps and an economy rate of just 5.33. Hasaranga is also a capable middle-order bat and made a counter-attacking fifty versus Ireland. He is a strong captaincy pick heading into this contest.

2. Aiden Markram (9 credits)

Markram has batted tremendously in the Super 12 stage so far. The elegant right-hand batter produced a fighting knock of 40 in the defeat versus Aussies and backed that up with an excellent half-century in the win over West Indies. Given his form, class and ability, making Markram captain would only be wise.

3. Anrich Nortje (9 credits)

Since he stepped on UAE shores, pacer Nortje has been fantastic with the ball. The pacer, who had picked up 12 wickets in the second half of IPL 2021 while going for only 6.16, has maintained his form and rhythm in the T20 World Cup as well. The tall fast bowler had a spell of 2/21 versus Australia and returned with figures of just 1/14 against the West Indies.

SA vs SL Dream11 Budget Picks

1. Dwaine Pretorius (8.5 credits)

South African allrounder Pretorious played a short but significant role in his team’s win over West Indies. The young cricketer had figures of 3/17 despite bowling both of his overs at the death against inarguably the most powerplay T20I batting unit in the world. Pretorius could be a very handy budget pick.

2. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (8.5 credits)

Middle-order batter Rajapaksa has been one of Sri Lanka’s better performers with the bat in the tournament. Rajapaksa has had a strike-rate of 148.27 in the T20 World Cup so far while averaging 64.50. He made a fantastic half-century in the win over Bangladesh and also struck an unbeaten 33 off 26 versus Australia.

3. Keshav Maharaj (8.5 credits)

Maharaj has slipped under the radar a bit, but in both of South Africa’s games so far, he has come in and bowled tight spells under pressure. Maharaj went for 1/23 against Australia and 2/24 versus the West Indies. The left-arm spinner will be hoping to once again tighten up the screws through the middle overs.
