Comeback is going to be completely different, reckons Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh’s leading allrounder, Shakib Al Hasan is all set to make his comeback to international cricket which he believes will be completely different to the ones he has made in his career.

Shakib has completed his one year ban imposed by the ICC, and is expected to play the home series against West Indies. He skipped the final of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup for personal reasons, but he is back from the United States and is available for national selection.

“This comeback is totally different,” remarked Shakib. “I was disappointed that I could not go to Sri Lanka. Thank you West Indies for coming here and I am excited about it,” he said.

Shakib earlier trained intensely at the BKSP in September for the Sri Lankan tour, which eventually got postponed. The all rounder stated that he is not taking any pressure on himself to perform, knowing that it will be difficult for him to dominate from the word-go. He disappointed at the Bangabandhu T20 Cup, where he failed to impress with the bat in any of his nine appearances.

“I am happy that I am returning to international cricket and there is no pressure on me,” said Shakib. “But it won’t be easy for me and I will try to get back my old form, if we cannot do well against the West Indies, it will be disappointing,” he added.

West Indies will arrive in Bangladesh on January 10 and quarantine for seven days. The first two ODIs will be held in Dhaka on January 20 and 22, with the final one being held in Chattogram on January 25.

The first Test is scheduled from February 3-7 at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium and the final Test is to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka from February 11-15. Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder and eight other West Indians have opted out of the tour due to covid-related fear.
