The two Asian giants are battle-hardened for the important encounter after having to play the cut-throat preliminary stage where they came up against the best of the emerging sides.

Probable Playing XI

Sri Lanka – Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera (wk), Charith Asalanka, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara

Bangladesh – Mohammad Naim, Liton Das, Mahedi Hasan, Shakib Al Hasan, Nurul Hasan (wk), Afif Hossain, Mahmudullah (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman

Weather Update: sunny/clear skies; 34 degrees C; wind 14 km/h; humidity 50%

Pitch report – the pitch in Sharjah has been a bowlers’ paradise since the start of the UAE leg of IPL 2021. In the last two matches of Group A during the preliminary round, none of the four teams on show managed to go at 6.5 runs per over. So one can expect another dry, spin-friendly track where also pacers, with their high release and uneven bounce, will make life difficult for the batters.

SL vs BAN Dream11 Prediction

SL vs BAN

Can Sri Lanka continue their winning run in the SL vs BAN Super 12 encounter?

Since both the teams’ strength lies in the spin department, this is set to be one of the closest encounters of Group 1 in the Super 12 round. But Sri Lankan spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana do look the more threatening of the lot because of their unresolved mystery and the dry surface in Sharjah, which is just ripe for them to exploit any chink in the batters’ armoury.

Sri Lankan pacers Lahiru Kumara and Dushmantha Chameera have also liked the Sharjah track with their high-arm release and ability to nail the hard lengths. Thus, while Sri Lanka’s batting stands quite untested at this stage of the tournament, their bowling gives them a cutting edge above Bangladesh.

SL vs BAN Dream11 Captaincy Picks

1. Wanindu Hasaranga (10 credits)

Hasaranga has been Sri Lanka’s best allround performer in the T20 World Cup so far. The intelligent middle-order batter and the incisive spinner is majorly responsible for Sri Lanka enjoying a winning run through the preliminary stage. In the three games of the competition so far, Hasaranga has taken 6 wickets with an economy rate of just 4.09. He also played a magnificent counter-attacking knock of 71 versus Ireland in Abu Dhabi.

2. Shakib Al Hasan (10 credits)

In a Bangladesh game, one can’t look too far beyond Shakib Al Hasan as far as the strongest captaincy picks are concerned. Shakib is his team’s heart and soul, with his allround capabilities so very crucial to Bangladesh’s fortunes. Shakib hasn’t yet come to the party with the bat this tournament, as he has averaged 36 but at a strike-rate of 114.89. However, the great cricketer has been his usual self with the ball and has picked up 9 wickets already while conceding just 4.50 runs per over.

3. Maheesh Theekshana (9 credits)

An interesting but most likely a safe pick for captaincy in Sharjah could be Theekshana. The Sri Lankan spin sensation has been excellent in the tournament so far. He took 8 wickets in the preliminary round from his three outings and gave away only 5 runs per over. Theekshana’s presence in the middle-overs, along with Hasaranga, is pivotal to Sri Lanka’s chances for the rest of the T20 World Cup.

SL vs BAN Dream11 Budget Picks

1. Lahiru Kumara (8.5 credits)

Kumara, the tall right-arm express quick, has relished bowling on dry, uneven decks in UAE in this T20 World Cup. He has helped Sri Lanka cover up any flaw in their bowling unit and given the opposition batters no respite. Kumara is heading into the Bangladesh fixture with 7 wickets and an economy rate of only 3.61 from the preliminary round.

2. Pathum Nissanka (8 credits)

Nissanka, the opening batter, was one of the heroes of Sri Lanka’s win over Ireland in Abu Dhabi. When his team was reeling at 8/3, Nissanka produced a measured but vital knock of 61 off 47 balls and stitched a great counter-attacking stand with Hasaranga. The right-hand batter missed out in the previous game versus the Netherlands but is undoubtedly in good form and is a handy budget pick to have.

3. Mahedi Hasan (8.5 credits)

It wouldn’t an exaggeration to say that one major reason why Bangladesh are still alive in the competition is the impressive off-spinner Mahedi Hasan. It was Hasan who bowled some decisive tight overs in the close-fought encounter against Oman and helped Bangladesh keep the Asian associates at bay in Muscat. Hasan has mostly slipped under the radar in a team and spin attack boasting of a Shakib Al Hasan. But one look at the numbers and nobody can doubt that he has been invaluable with his presence and contribution.

Hasan took 5 wickets from his 3 Group B matches of the preliminary round and conceded only 4.41 runs per over. No other Bangladesh bowler – not even Shakib – could claim to be as economical in the tournament so far.
