Sri Lankan Cricketer Shehan Madushanka has been detained by the Lankan police on account of possessing illegal drugs at Pannala on Sunday.

Madushanka, a right arm quick, was found to be possessing two grams of heroin when he was stopped by the traffic police while driving his vehicle, accompanied by another person, as per what the police told the Agence Frances-Presse. He was also found at fault for violation lockdown regulations, something that the police initially detained him for. The magistrate has ordered for a two week period of custody for the 25 year old, Wennappuwa born fast bowler.

Madushanka burst into the International scene with a hat trick on One Day Debut against Bangladesh in early 2018, his wickets being Mashrafe Mortaza, Rubel Hossain and Mahmudullah. The last time we saw him in Sri Lankan colours in limited overs Cricket was in the Nidahas T20 tri series featuring India and Bangladesh as well. Frequent, prolonged injuries have played a role in keeping him on the sidelines more often.

This was not the first time a Cricketer landed in troubled waters due to possession or consumption of actual drugs. In 2008, Mohammad Asif was detained at the Dubai airport after the authorities found a tiny sample of opium in his wallet, although later, the charges against him were dropped after a local court said that the offense was insignificant. The likes of David Murray of the West Indies and Ed Giddins of England faded into obscurity for frequent usage of drugs.
