Probable St Kitts & Nevis Patriots (SKNP) Playing XI for CPL 2021

St Kitts & Nevis Patriots (SKNP) are eyeing their maiden Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in the league’s forthcoming edition, starting August 26. The Patriots had a horrible campaign last year, finishing bottom of the pile with just one victory from their ten league games.

The disastrous run of matches in CPL 2020 could either dent their self-confidence of the side so hard they are unable to get up on their feet again or prove to be the trigger for a turnaround

To ensure they recover from the major fall last summer, the Patriots have made two major signings, roping in the mighty Chris Gayle and experienced fast bowling all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to their squad. But before St Kitts & Nevis Patriots begin their campaign with an opening day fixture against Barbados Royals, the point of focus is their likely playing XI.

The mighty Chris Gayle is St Kitts & Nevis Patriots latest signing.

What could be the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots (SKNP) playing XI for CPL 2021?

1. Chris Gayle

What can one say about Chris Gayle when it comes to T20 cricket? The ‘Universe Boss’ is a legend when it comes to the game’s shortest version and continues to hit a flurry of sixes per game despite having entered his forties. The left-hander also showed encouraging signs with his form towards the latter half of West Indies’ prolonged home T20I season this year.

2. Evin Lewis

Lewis may have fallen off a bit with his game in the last few years but the attacking right-hand batsman still boasts of an intimidating presence at the crease as an opener. With his ability to hit the long ball earlier in the innings, Lewis can really set the mood of the game and put the opposition under real pressure.

3. Joshua Da Silva (wk)

Wicketkeeper-batsman Da Silva has been a quiet but crucial contributor with the bat in the West Indies Test side over the last one year. He will be hoping to carry that form and confidence forward into the CPL 2021, especially after a disappointing campaign in CPL 2020 where he managed only 136 runs from his 7 innings at a strike-rate of just 104.61.

4. Sherfane Rutherford

After a poor season with Guyana Amazon Warriors, Rutherford, the promising left-hand batter, has shifted base to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in hope of a fresh start and better, consistent performances. The Patriots will be delighted with their signing if Rutherford can finally produce the kind of performances that teams have expected of this talented cricketer.

5. Asif Ali

Pakistan’s middle-order right-hand batter Ali could be the next man on the team list for the Patriots. Ali, who is about to have his first season with the franchise, hasn’t been able to cement his place in the national T20I side but he has an encouraging overall T20 record to his name, with 3648 runs from 198 matches at an impressive strike-rate of 147.69.

6. Ravi Bopara

Not having played for England for more than six years now, Bopara continues to ply his trade in leagues around the world. An experienced middle-order batsman who can deliver some useful medium-fast bowling, Bopara will be heading into the CPL 2021 in reasonably good form, having made 237 runs in the T20 Blast for Sussex at a strike-rate of 123.43 and deliver his overs at an economy rate of 6.76.

7. Fabian Allen

West Indies’ young spin all-rounder Allen is a valuable addition to the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots team. Still very early into his career, Allen has an economy rate of 7.21 and a strike-rate of 138.88 in his T20I career for the Calypso Kings. He also

8. Dwayne Bravo

With time, Bravo’s batting abilities have gone on the wane a touch but he is still an important member of whichever team’s T20 attack he is part of. Bravo, who is shifting base from Trinbago Knight Riders to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, took nine wickets from as many innings in CPL 2020 with an economy rate of 7.50. In the recently concluded West Indies’ T20I season, Bravo took 17 wickets from just 15 innings while going for only 6.95 runs per over.

9. Rayad Emrit (c)

Captain Emrit, the right-arm pacer, was his team’s highest wicket-taker in CPL 2020. Emrit bagged 11 scalps from his 10 innings with an economy rate of 5.96 and will be eyeing another season where he leads from the front.

10. Paul van Meekeren

Netherlands paceman Meekeren is another vital member of the bowling attack for the Patriots. The Dutch right-arm seamer has an impressive T20I record to his name with 47 wickets from 45 games at an economy rate of just 7.16.

11. Fawad Ahmed

Australian leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed completes St Kitts & Nevis Patriots’ line-up for the CPL 2021. Ahmed boasts of a mighty impressive T20 record to his name below the international scene. He has now taken 144 wickets from 136 innings at an economy rate of just 6.99.
