Sunil Narine reported for suspect action yet again

Sunil Narine, who successfully defended 14 runs off the final over for KKR in yesterday’s IPL encounter against Kings XI Punjab at Abu Dhabi, has been reported for suspect action yet again. The KKR spinner took 2/28 in his 4 overs yesterday, and was instrumental in KKR’s 2-run victory over KXIP.

An IPL statement read, “The report was made by the on-field umpires (Ulhas Gandhe and Chris Gaffaney) according to the IPL’s Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Policy.”

The statement also read that Narine would be placed “on the warning list” but would be permitted to bowl unless there was another report against him, following which he would be “suspended from bowling” in the tournament until cleared by the BCCI’s committee that deals with suspect bowling actions.

The first time Sunil Narine was reported for a suspect action was in the now defunct Champions League T20 in 2014. He ended up missing the final for KKR having been reported twice in the duration of the tournament, and they went on to lose the final to CSK by wickets.

The following year, Narine came under the radar for his action in a One Day International against Sri Lanka at Pallekele.

After being reported in the Champions League in 2014, Narine opted to skip the 2015 ODI Cricket World Cup to work on his action. The Trinidadian off-spinner was subsequently reported during the 2015 IPL, when he was cleared to bowl, then reported and sent for a re-test, then banned from bowling his off-spinners, and finally cleared again with a “final warning”.
