The long-awaited India-England five-match Test series finally kicked off on Wednesday (August 3) at Trent Bridge. Home team captain Joe Root won the toss and asked his counterpart Virat Kohli and company to bowl first.

In absence of their premier all-rounder Ben Stokes, the hosts brought back young Sam Curran to their playing XI and also handed a comeback to Jonny Bairstow to try and bolster the batting unit. Despite the lack of spin option in their unit, there wasn’t much scrutiny around England’s selection for the Test match.

But the visitors certainly raised eyebrows and triggered debates with their selection when they left out two of their most prolific wicket-takers in off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and experienced quick Ishant Sharma.

Kohli and company instead opted for an extra seam option in Shardul Thakur and brought in Mohammed Siraj to the side that played the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand, with KL Rahul also filling in at the top for injured Shubman Gill and concussed Mayank Agarwal.

While the television feed was working fine, the broadcaster’s digital app ‘Sony Liv’ left a lot to be desired as some fans complaint of receiving the English and Tamil feed together.

The app is already known for its notorious habit of taking untimely advertisement breaks that sometimes take place even before an over is finished.

Fans also faced issues of discoloured and hung-up screens on their live stream.
