Northern Superchargers’ middle-order batsman Harry Brook on Saturday (July 24) produced an exceptional knock in the inaugural men’s edition of The Hundred. Playing against visitors Welsh Fire at Headingley, Brook smashed 62 runs off just 31 deliveries and nearly took his team home.

Walking into a challenging situation under pressure, with Superchargers 39/2 chasing the target of 174, which soon became 50/4, the right-hand batter played an outstanding innings, taking the fight back to the opposition with some amazing strokeplay.

Brook’s knock included three fours and five sixes, as he nearly helped Superchargers pull off the chase. Lack of support for Brook at the other end, however, meant that the home team had to settle with a painful 5-run defeat.

Despite a heroic batting effort, the youngster was part of the losing team’s dressing room. But on a personal note, the young gun had much to savour out of the game and his knock. Brook’s innings has suddenly brought him under limelight, with fans developing a great sense of anticipation around him and his game.

Harry Brook gets maiden stint in The Hundred after superb summer for Yorkshire in T20 Blast

An excellent start to The Hundred for the Superchargers for Harry Brook should hardly be a matter of surprise. Brook has entered his first-ever season with the Northern Superchargers after a terrific run in the T20 Blast this summer.

The 22-year-old Yorkshire right-hand batsman got the nod from Superchargers for The Hundred men’s 2021 after dominating the bowling in the Blast. He is the top run-scorer for Yorkshire in the competition, with 485 runs from 12 innings at a strike-rate of 150.15 and average of 80.83. Brook’s tally includes a best of unbeaten 91 off 50 balls which he made against arch-rivals Lancashire.

Harry Brook has now played 38 domestic T20 fixtures in his young career with 1,103 runs to his name at a strike-rate of 150.06 and an average of 40.85. Brook is still finding his way through as a first-class and List A batsman for Yorkshire, but is certainly on the rise in the shortest form of the game.
