In an interview to Fancode, Parthiv Patel revealed that he told Virat Kohli, captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, to buy Jasprit Bumrah in the IPL auction of 2017.
“I told Virat that this is the guy, we should be picking him! But obviously, Mumbai Indians outwitted RCB and he went to Mumbai Indians,” Patel told Fancode.
Bumrah eventually went to Mumbai Indians, and the rest is history. There was no looking back for the speedster as he paved his way to becoming one of the finest bowlers in international cricket. Combining lethal pace with toe crushing yorkers, the speedster is now a front fast bowler of the Indian side as well. In 77 IPL matches for the Mumbai Indians, Bumrah has claimed 82 wickets at an economy of 7.55. In the previous IPL edition, Bumrah had scalped 19 wickets at an impressive economy of 6.63.
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s batting line up have always been star studded, considered to be heavy. On the flat decks of Chinnaswamy, they have amassed scores of over 200 plenty of times. However, they have also failed to defend such scored several times, especially in the last couple of years, due to the non availability of a quality bowler who could close the innings miserly. That has been a chink in RCB’s armour for a while now.
The fact that RCB have a strong batting line up reflected from Rohit Sharma’s words. A few days ago, the Mumbai Indians captain said in an Instagram Live session with David Warner that his team sits and plans the most when it comes to playing against RCB.
“We sit and plan for RCB more than any team. Their batting line-up is unreal. To have that batting line up! Our team meeting goes on for a couple of hours when we play against them,” Rohit said.
