With a decently built bowling attack backing their impressive looking batting unit at work, Trent Rockets are considered one of the front-runners to clinch the title in the inaugural edition of The Hundred, starting July 22.
The Rockets’ squad features Rashid Khan, Lewis Gregory and Wahab Riaz among others in their bowling line-up, which will pose a major threat to opposition batsmen who’ll be looking to maximise the advantage on what are some of the truest white-ball tracks of the world in UK.
As the new 100-ball format makes it necessary for batsmen to push the accelerator on earlier than they do even in T20s, the onus will be on Trent Rockets bowlers to keep them quiet for as long as possible and enforce errors that shall trigger their departure.
Their task, however, will be made tougher by the fact that their home venue – Nottingham’s Trent Bridge ground – is one of the flattest limited-overs surfaces in England. But that shouldn’t deter the likes of Rashid too much as they’ll still hold the key to Trent Rockets’ chances.

1. Rashid Khan
Easily the world’s best T20 spinner, Afghanistan wrist-spinner Rashid Khan is an obvious candidate to end as The Hundred’s top wicket-taker from the Trent Rockets side. With time, teams have looked to cut down risks against Rashid and have focused on playing him through. But that hasn’t held our man back, as he has still found a way to chip in with regular breakthroughs.
Rashid, a prominent figure in leagues around the globe including the IPL, has now taken a whopping 370 wickets from 265 T20 games his flourishing career at an economy rate of only 6.27. Rashid’s ability to indecipherably mix his googlies with the leg-spinner while maintaining excellent control and consistency has been lethal.
2. Sam Cook
Essex’s right-arm seamer Sam Cook is another crucial member of the Trent Rockets bowling attack for The Hundred. Cook will be entering the maiden 100-ball competition with some good form and rhythm behind him. He has taken 15 wickets from his 11 T20 Blast matches this season while maintaining a respectable economy rate of 7.50.

The 23-year-old pacer’s tally this summer is better than his overall T20 record where he has 23 wickets from as many games while going for 8.43 runs per over. Hook’s improved performances augur well for the Rockets, who would want him to take on the responsibility and become their four-over bank.
3. Lewis Gregory
Trent Rockets captain Lewis Gregory will be hoping to lead his team front this season. Gregory has just made an impressive return to the England ODI set-up, taking 4 wickets from his 2 outings against Pakistan at an average of just 13.75.
His selection for the Pakistan series was a reward for being frequently active in the wickets column for Somerset in the T20 Blast this season. Gregory has now taken 130 wickets from 123 innings in his overall T20 career with an economy rate of 8.98. Gregory’s all-round ability – he has a T20 strike-rate of 143.68 with the bat – will be influential to the Rockets’ fortunes.
