Despite setting a reasonably big target, the Rajasthan Royals failed to capitalize on the momentum with some poor fielding. They let some presentable opportunities slip away, thus keeping Punjab Kings well within the game.

Rajasthan Royals had earlier scored 185 runs before getting bowled out. Arshdeep Singh’s magnificent five-fer helped restrict the damage towards the end, without which the Royals were looking well set for a 200-run total. Mahipal Lomror, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Evin Lewis chipped in with power-packed contributions for the men in pink.

However, the confidence incurred with the big score was negated almost instantly by poor fielding from the side. Punjab Kings’ skipper, one of the contenders for the orange cap this season, KL Rahul was dropped thrice inside the first six overs, letting him survive despite playing some poor shots. Rahul found his rhythm soon and consolidated his side’s position with a brilliant opening partnership.

Rahul was first dropped by Evin Lewis when he was batting on 2. Lewis had to move sharply to take this catch at point off Rahul’s cut shot, and despite being at a good height, the catch was spilled. Riyan Parag was next, who dropped Rahul at mid-on while running backward. He got into a comfortable position to pick the ball, but failed to grasp it at the very end.

Agarwal and Rahul added 120 runs for the first wicket.

The easiest of them all was handed to Chetan Sakariya at short fine-leg when Rahul tried to flick the ball and hit it straight to the left-arm pacer. The ball bounced off Rahul’s hands and met the ground, thus making it three lives on the day for KL Rahul.

Poor catching streak continues for Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals have dropped plenty of catches this season and it invariably has caused a lot of damage. According to cricket.com, they have the lowest catching efficiency this season, having already dropped 13 catches this edition. Sanju Samson and company have a long way to go in the tournament, but as it stands, they are at the receiving end of some severe criticism.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Rajasthan’s poor fielding show.
