Twitter reacts as West Indies are bowled out for 55!
The defending champions West Indies are off to the worst possible start in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, who registered their lowest ever total in T20Is against England after being asked to bat first. The English bowlers destroyed their batting line-up on an eye-popping night for the side.
Eoin Morgan opened the innings with Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes operating at either ends, and both bowlers provided breakthroughs almost instantly. Woakes got rid of Evin Lewis in the second over, whilst Moeen managed to get the better of Simmons in the next over. They lost 2 more wickets before the powerplay was done, with Shimron Hetmyer and Chris Gayle, both getting dismissed while slogging the ball.
The carnage continued after that with Tymal Mills and Chris Jordan continuing the procession. The Caribbean batters came out with zero planning and were found wanting a bit too much. There was no sense of consolidation coming from any batter, and it only got worse after the first 10 overs.
Adil Rashid destroys their lower order
The game was well set for Adil Rashid to take over, who registered his best figures in T20I cricket on the day. He picked up the ball for the first time in the 11th over, where he managed to get a wicket of his first delivery. He bowled a sensational googly that took Andre Russell by surprise, and ensured he was off walking very early.
In his next over, Kieron Pollard tried to loft his way of trouble and found the long-on fielder, and in an atrocious action replay of events, Obel McCoy was dismissed the very next delivery after his captain was sent back. He too, tried to go for a heave that accounted for nothing, and got him caught at long-on.
He then cleaned up Rampaul’s stumps in his 3rd over, and picked up figures of 4/2 in 3.1 overs. West Indies were bowled out for just 55 runs in 14.2 overs, which was their second-lowest in T20I cricket, and also the third-lowest total in T20 World Cups.
