Puducherry have been one of the surprise quarter-finalists in this year’s tournament, as their impressive performances meant that they notched progression from the first stage of the competition. However, they would have to come up against Karnataka in the last-eight, a challenge that might just become a bit too difficult for them to overcome. Stranger things have happened in cricket though, hence one cannot completely rule out the possibility of an upset from Puducherry.
Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20
M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
October 20th, 2019
9:00 AM IST
Mostly sunny weather with 22% chances of rain and the temperature ranging around 22 degrees Celsius is expected during the course of the game.
The pitch on offer at the Chinnaswamy would help the batsmen, as the shorter boundaries and the flat nature of the track would ensure that run-scoring would become more convenient during the match.
Predicted Playing XI:
Karnataka boast of a brilliant batting order with the likes of KL Rahul and Manish Pandey adding immense firepower at the top of the order. Devdutt Padikkal has shown commendable form in recent times whilst the duo of Krishnappa Gowtham and Shreyas Gopal would be vital to the team as well.
KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Karun Nair, Manish Pandey (C), Sharath BR (WK), Rohan Kadam, Krishnappa Gowtham, Shreyas Gopal, Abhimanyu Mithun, Ronit More, Prasidh Krishna
It would be quite an emotional moment for Vinay Kumar to play against Karnataka after having been a leader and pivotal player for them before switching allegiances ahead of the ongoing season. Arun Karthik, Paras Dogra and Sagar Trivedi would be the other key players for the team.
Arun Karthik, Damodaren Rohit (C), Paras Dogra, Vinay Kumar, S Karthik (wk), S Suresh Kumar, Vikneshwaran Marimuthu, Fabid Ahmed, Sagar Udeshi, Sagar Trivedi, Ashith Rajiv Sanganakal
KL Rahul amassed 368 runs in the league stage that included a couple of very impressive knocks that were stroke-filled and gave a brilliant testament to his natural prowess as well. He, along with Manish Pandey who has so far piled up 505 runs in the tournament should be the primary two selections amongst the crop of batsmen. Vinay Kumar has continued his persistently good form in the domestic circuit from Karnataka to Puducherry, and has scalped 14 dismissals so far. Devdutt Padikkal has scored 456 runs, and looks well on course to score even more as the tournament progresses. He should be included in the fantasy XI side too.
